If there was one thing Kylie hated, it was school. Summer she loved, just like any other student. But the going back to school thing was the worst.
"I've gotta go shopping for new clothes and all my 'school supplies'." she told Isaac over the phone. "You're lucky you're done with school."
"Yeah but this is your senior year! Be happy!"
"I'm trying but nothing seems to be working." she grumbled, "I don't believe all that shit about your senior year 'flying by'. That's probably just something someone made up."
"Its true, Ky. It really does fly by."
"Right, I'm sure it does."
Isaac laughed. "I'm serious!"
Kylie sat herself down on the couch and turned on the tv. "Yep, I believe you Ike."
"So are you coming over or what?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot you had a reasoning to this phone call. But, refresh my memory, why am I wanted over there again?"
"Because we're going swimming. Its nothing real big."
Kylie glanced outside. "Um, Ike?"
"Yeah?"
"Its raining."
There was a slight pause on the other end. "Oh." he finally said, "So it is."
"I'm not going swimming then."
"I don't think we are either."
"Hey Ike!" Kylie heard Zac say in the background, "Its raining! How much does that suck?"
"Yeah Zac, we just noticed that." Isaac said
Kylie laughed. "Tell him I say hi."
"Kylie says hi." Isaac told Zac
"Aw! I love you Ky!" Zac shouted
"I love him too." she said
"He already knows that."
"So tell him anyway!"
"How 'bout you just come over and tell him?"
Kylie sighed. "Fine, I'll come over. See ya in five."
She hung up the phone and ran upstairs to run a brush through her hair and slip on some lip glass. As she was walking outside she was sit with sheets of rain, pouring down on her. "Shit!" she screamed. She broke out into a run, heading over to the Hanson's.
She threw open the front door without knocking and quickly got inside, slamming the door behind her. She leaned her back up against it, breathing heavily. Zac appeared in the foyer and stopped, giving her a weird look.
He smiled at her. "Its just a little rain, Ky. It ain't gonna hurt ya."
She walked over to him and gave him a big hug, getting his shirt wet from her drenched clothes. "Ohh Zac! I love you!"
Zac pushed her away. "Hey! You got me all wet! Now I gotta go change!"
"You wanna get me some clothes while you're up there? Thanks."
"Why don't you just come up with me? Borrow some of Taylor's since his will probably fit you better. He's skinny."
"He's not skinny Zac." Kylie said, following him up the stairs.
"Yes he is, and don't argue with me."
They reached the top of the stairs and Zac pointed at Taylor's closed bedroom door. "Right over there is where you need to go."
"Thank you sir." She walked off down the hall and knocked quietly on Taylor's door. "Tay? Its me."
"Come in." she heard him say.
She opened the door and found him making his bed. "Whoa, didn't mean to interrupt, I'll leave you two alone... " she started to step back out into the hall but his voice stopped her.
"Get back here."
She turned around and walked over to him, throwing her arms around his shoulders. She sighed and closed her eyes. "Hey." she whispered
"Hey yourself." he whispered back. He rubbed his hands up and down her back a couple times before pulling away. "Missed you."
"I missed you too, sweets."
He went back to making his bed and she found a spot on his floor. "When's the last time you made your bed?" she asked
"Um... about a month ago I think."
Kylie scrunched up her nose. "Ew."
"What?! I'm a guy!"
"You washed your sheets, right?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, good."
"So, you excited for school to start?" he asked, finishing with his bed.
"Do you think I am?"
Taylor thought for a minute. "No."
"I mean, why should I be?" she asked, standing up and walking over to his closet. "I get to see all those people I hate the most. All those preppy cheerleader girls trying to get me all happy. Ugh, makes me want to puke."
"You sound a little bitter." Taylor said, coming up behind her. "You need some clothes?"
"Yeah, its raining out you know."
"I figured." He grabbed a pair of sweat pants and an over-sized t-shirt. "Here."
Kylie made a face. "Do you think I could wear a wife-beater instead? Its nothing against your t-shirt or anything, its just that it looks a little big for me."
"Do you have to be that picky?" he sighed, throwing the shirt back in the closet. He went over to his dresser and got a wife-beater out from one of the drawers. "This better?" he asked, holding it out to her.
She walked over and grabbed it out of his hands. "Much." She headed out of the room and down the hall towards the bathroom to change. The door was closed so she knocked.
"If its Tay, you can't come in. If its Ike... you can't come in either. Your hair is gonna look the same no matter what you do to it."
Kylie smiled to herself. "Its me Zac, Kylie."
"Oh... well you can't come in either."
"Zac I have to change!"
"So?"
"What are you doing in there anyway?"
"Brushing my long golden locks." he said, "Why do you ask?"
"Because I need to use the bathroom so I can change my clothes!"
"Oh."
There was silence for the next few moments. "ZAC!" she shouted, "GET OUT!"
Kylie could hear some shutting of drawers and finally the door was swung open. "Did you need use the bathroom for something?" he asked
"UGH!" she shoved passed him and slammed the door in his face. "Go brush your hair somewhere else!"
Kylie quickly stripped out of her wet clothes and slipped on Taylor's wife-beather and sweat pants. "I look damn sexy." she said, looking in the mirror. "Oh hell yes, damn - "
"Ky?"
She froze. God I hope he didn't hear me...
"Ky?"
"What?"
"Are you almost done?" Zac asked
"I just got in here no more than two minutes ago!"
"Well all you had to do was change clothes."
She picked up her wet clothes from the floor and opened the bathroom door. "Fine, I'm done. You can go back to 'brushing your golden locks'." she smirked
"Its not what you think." he called after her, "I swear!"
Kylie was laughing as she walked back into Taylor's room. "Zac... "
"Zac what?"
"He... he was 'brushing his golden locks'!!!" she fell to the floor in a fit of laughter. "BRUSHING HIS GOLDEN LOCKS!!"
Taylor stared down at her. "Yeah, so?"
Kylie stopped laughing and sat up. "Well I think that's funny!"
"O-kay." Taylor got up from his bed and went over to the door. "You coming down?" he asked
Kylie stared over at him for a moment. She wondered why she hadn't let everything sink in when she got there. This was the first time they had seen eachother since...the other day. She all of a sudden felt incredibly embarrassed. She wasn't sure if she should bring it all up now or later.
"You coming?" he repeated
She shook her head, trying to get rid of those thoughts for now. "Yeah, I'm coming." She picked up her clothes and followed him out of the room and down the stairs. She went down to the basement to the laundry room to put her wet clothes in the dryer. Once she as standing in front of the dryer she stared at it. She couldn't figure out how to work it for the life of her. "Shit. I can't be this stupid." she mumbled to herself. "Lemme see... " she read all the dials carefully, but still, nothing made sense. This dryer was totally different from the one she had at home. She poked her head around the corner and looked up the basement steps. "SOMEONE HELP!!" she shouted. She silently thanked God that no one was home but her and the three brothers. Otherwise Diana would've been down those stairs in a flash; thinking something was seriously wrong.
"What is it now?" came Taylor's deep voice from the top of the stairs.
Kylie looked around the corner again and up the stairs at him, giving him a sheepish look. "I can't get the dryer to work." she told him
"Its a dryer. You put the clothes in, turn the dial and hit the start button."
"I know that, but I don't know which dial is for what and what setting and... oh just come help me!"
Taylor sighed before walking slowly down the stairs towards the laundry room. He appeared in the doorway seconds later. "Okay, now that you're here, hopefully you can do this for me." she said to him
He looked around the small room. "Where's the clothes?"
"In the dryer, duh."
"Oh."
He hit a couple things and switched something to a different heat setting then hit the start button. "There."
"Oh you're the bestest!" Kylie jumped up and down a couple times before giving him a big hug. "Thank you!"
He pulled back from the embrace and stared down at her lips. The lips he wanted on his so badly. The lips that seemed to sparkle in the light; a result of her lip gloss he was sure tasted of strawberries. His lifted his eyes to met her's, asking for the okay to go ahead and do the one thing he had wanted to do ever since he left her house the other day. She stared back at him, and he couldn't seem to read her gaze. Did she want this or no? He decided not to chance it.
"Lets head back up." he quickly broke himself away from her. She nodded her head in response, then followed him back up the basement steps to the first floor.
"Was there something wrong?" Isaac asked them as they walked into the kitchen.
"Yes, you guys have a very fucked up dryer." Kylie told him, taking a seat across the table.
"Oh, yeah, its a little confusing. Sorry 'bout that."
"Well at least Taylor came to help me."
The doorbell rang and Taylor raced to the front door. "I got it!"
Kylie watched him run out of the kitchen, a puzzled look plastered on her face. "Um... okay... "
"We have this thing about answering the front door. I don't know." Isaac said, "Its best if you don't ask."
They both sat in silence for a few moments until Isaac asked her something she wasn't expecting.
"The other day... over at your house... did you and Tay... "
Oh God.
"...Did you guys, um... "
"Have sex?" she supplied
Isaac looked up at her sharply. He nodded in response to her question.
"No, we didn't. Why would we? I mean, come on. Its me and Tay, we would NEVER do anything like that. Hah." Trying to avoid any further questions she got up and left the kitchen. Her answer to Isaac had been one she just thought of off the top of her head. She didn't want it to seem like a big deal. She wanted to come across as very carefree to him.
Just as she rounded the corner after leaving the kitchen she came face to face with Taylor. "Oh, hi. Who was at the door?"
"Someone for Zac. What's with your answer to Ike?" he asked, his tone a bit harsh.
"What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean."
Kylie wondered why he sounded a little upset. Was he listening when Isaac asked her? "Were you listening when he asked me?" she voiced her thoughts
"Yeah, and its a good thing."
"Why would you do that?"
"Well I didn't mean to. I was on my way back from the front door and I heard him ask you so I decided to listen to hear what you had to say. But that's not the point."
"Oh really?" she countered, "Then what is the point?"
"The point is that you laughed it off as if you and I having sex is the weirdest thing you've ever heard of. Which strikes me as a bit odd, Kylie. Because you see, just the other day, I know for a fact that if Avery hadn't interrupted us, we would've had sex."
Kylie froze. "That - that's not true."
"You're damn right its true."
"No its not, Taylor. We know better than to do that. Don't you know what that could do to our friendship?"
"Do you think I care anymore? Come on Ky, lets be honest with eachother here. You know you wanted to do more than what we did, admit it."
"No, I didn't." She wasn't sure why she was telling him all these lies. But deep down she knew he knew how she really felt.
Taylor leaned in close to her. "Tell me." he said, his eyes fixed on her's.
Kylie was on the verge of giving in. Giving in and telling him how badly she wanted him. How she had longed to feel him inside of her ever since that day. But she didn't have to say anything. Taylor already knew. Her eyes told him everything he needed to know.
